The Haru story begins in November of 1996 with the opening of the first Haru restaurant on Amsterdam Avenue on the upper west side of Manhattan. The operating mantra of the first restaurant was simple and clear: You never fool a guest on the plate. This simple mantra became a touchstone for Haru as it focused our efforts on delivering quality food that offered a real value to our Guests. With less than 70 seats we were able to create a cozy and comfortable atmosphere, develop real relationships with our regulars, and transform Haru into a great neighborhood restaurant. These three core elements of food quality, value to the Guest, and creating personal connections with our Guests have served as our foundation as we have evolved to be the brand we are today. Staying true to our foundation, our Beliefs and Purpose, our definition of Success, and living by Our Core Values ensures we will never lose touch with our humble beginnings and remain worthy of growth.
